Art Class May 18 and 19

Hi Folks

Its coming towards the end of the on line posting for me, just this week and next .So for these last two weeks I am going to ask you to make an even greater effort than usual to enagage in my art challenge for the week .

This week we are going to look at sculpture, focusing on Environmental art or Land Art ,

Land artists use materials such as stone , branches and leaves to create their works , and often place them in natural settings . The British Land artist, Andy Goldsworthy creates his work in many different natural settings. The materials he has used include leaves , leaves , twigs , sand and even snow and ice. Many of his works don’t exist for very long , crumbling down or melting away. Goldsworthy considers this to be the final stage of the work .

HOW ON EARTH’ DOES HE DO IT ?

Goldsworthys art follows a natural cycle of construction and destruction.

He uses natural materials from the site location. The only tools used are natural objects also found on the site .

The materials are given the shape of something else found in nature , such as leaves placed into a spiral like a snail shell , or rocks formed into an egg .

A colour photograph is taken to record the work , and the work is then left to the elements.
